FARMERS AND THANE CYCLONE

Tropical Cyclone 'THANE" devastated all most entire trees in Cuddalore and neighborhood.  The loss it created to farmers, agriculturalist is enormous.  Though the life loss is minimized, property  loss could not be prevented.
  1. Farmers and Agriculturalist must come forward to work together with Government.  Then only it will be possible to ask for right at the time of crisis.
  2. When there is mutual trust among farmers and Government then there will be some meaningful compensation.
  3. Government must come forward to supply cooked food at very concessional rates in all villages and other places for some time now.
  4. This task can be entrusted with mid-day meals scheme workers, small mess owners, leading hoteliers, charitable institution,  etc.
  5. Cooked food [Morning/Noon/night] at concessional rate will pacify them for sometime.
  6. It is a sort of concessions to the affected citizens.
  7. Long term food concessional package [on cooked food, especially to the residents of affected villages] will help them improve their status.
  8. Apart from that supply of other essential items to the needy in Cuddalore district at reasonably and judiciously affordable rate. By this I mean waiving of SALES TAX / VAT / COMMERCIAL TAX/WATER TAX/ PROPERTY TAX or concession on it.
  • "THANE" crossed between Cuddalore and Parengipettai.
  • THANE can be viewed as a meso-scale tornado like tropical cyclone.
  • Wind speed ranged from 100kmph gusting to 135kmph.
  • It moved in a NWly direction and after landfall and gave enormous rainfall central interior TN
  • It further moved north along 77 Deg longitude and dissipated.
  • It induced a low on 31.12.2011 near Kanyakumari and this induced low gave rainfall in Kumari, Nellai, Virudunagar and Thiruvanandthapuram,Kollam districts.
