THE CHOPPER MISHAP & YSR TRAGEDY
YSR is a tall leader. No doubt in it. He is so popular among the people. Be it villagers, or towns dwellers or people living in city, educated, uneducated all loved him. He is a born leader indeed. The weather was merciless. On the date of mishap [02-09-2009] there was a feeble trough of low pressure / off shore trough on and off in Bay of Bengal. At 1500 meter [flight level: 055/ 5500 ft] the winds were strong WESTERLIES, around 25 knots. But in higher level the winds were EAST-NORTH EASTERLY and were strong around 40 knots. {Refer CIMSS site]. These WESTERLIES were cross wind for the flight which was bound for SOUTH. Chopper might have got into downdraft in one of the "small vertically extended cumulonimbus" clouds and would have last altitude and might have drifted along WESTERLIES i.e towards EAST, and that might have happened with in a shorter duration. Before steadying, it might have drifted and hit the cliff top laterally. (The fuselage is separated because of this lateral-side- impact.)
{It may be wrong too}
Of all emergencies that a flight can encounter, weather is the prime emergency. Pilot would have obtained weather clearance including route forecast from Begumpet Airport. On encountering touring cumulus clouds which are under fast development, the Pilot might have headed towards EAST hoping that clouds would be lesser, as it is SW monsoon period. But contrary to his expectations clouds still have obscured the visibility. Further adding to their misery the WESTERLY tail winds would have gusted to forcing it to loose altitude. This might have resulted in tragedy.
