Sethu Samudram Canal Project

I have recently been to Dhanushkodi and had a chance to go nearer to Adam Bridge. There is no doubt that the Adam Bridge is a natural one. It is one of the UN declared marine bioreseves of the globe. No doubt if any destruction is done to Adam Bridge there are many chances for major natural disaster / calamity including Tsunami to struck Tamilnadu Coast. Further drudging will destroy the coral reef there and the local fishing community may not have big catch in near future. Shipping wise too huge liners may not pass through the straight and even if they manage to cross the time savings will be merely two to three hours. Considering the voyage time of ship this time is negligible. The wise British dropped the idea. {Here some light must be thrown on the trade that was flourishing during the late 19 century and early 20th century. Pamban considered being a port of attraction for British sailors because of its proximity to Srilanka and a boat mail [train service] was running between Chennai and Dhanuskodi via Rameswaram. The British has erected railway bridge at Pamban repeat railway bridge over sea [2.345 km lenth, Height app: 45 m] which enables ship to cross the passage. The British has dropped the idea of Sethu Project because of non viability.]
